Anywhere else in the country, except perhaps San Francisco and prime Los Angeles, a quarter-of-a-million-dollar real estate budget wouldn't sound like an impossibility. But here in New York City, it does. Still, when we scoured brokerage websites and StreetEasy for ones that fit the bill, we found a decent selection to be excited about—here are a handful that are open for viewing this weekend:
147-87 Grand Central Parkway, Apartment 97GA, Kew Gardens. This two-bedroom, one-bath in the Parkway Village complex has coffered ceilings and a private backyard. Asking price: $228,000. Open house: Sunday, May 21, 1 pm to 3 pm.
5640 Netherland Avenue, Apartment 5G, Riverdale. You can, indeed, get more space for less money in the Bronx; this two-bedroom, one-bath co-op is in the popular, but somewhat subway-starved—there's only the 1 train and it's a walk—neighborhood of Riverdale. Indoor parking space (!) is part of the sale. Asking price: $248,000. Open house: Sunday, May 21, 3 pm to 4 pm.
301 East 63rd Street, Apartment 12L, Lenox Hill. A possible investment—subletting is allowed from the start—or a chance to build equity instead of renting in Manhattan, this studio has three closets and is in a full-service doorman building. Asking price: $249,000. Open house: Sunday, May 21, aa am to 12:30 pm, by appointment only.
3220 Avenue H, Apartment 5A, Ditmas Park/Flatbush. This one-bedroom, one-bath in an elevator building has a renovated kitchen and tall windows. Asking price: $250,000. Open house: Sunday, May 21, 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm.
