Among our recommended neighborhoods for college students and other newcomers to the city is Hamilton Heights, a vibrant section of Harlem that's also known for being where the late, great, Lin-Manuel Miranda-musical inspiration, Alexander Hamilton, once resided (hence the name).
But in general, the area is a destination for buyers who can still find value, compared to other pricier parts of Harlem and the city, as well as plenty of restaurants. Here, a sampling of what's available for viewing, for both starter buyers and those with bigger budgets, this weekend:
400 Convent Avenue, Apartment 44. A 1219-square-foot three-bedroom, one-bath co-op with hardwood floors and original crown moldings. Asking price: $595,000. Open house: Saturday, May 13, 1 pm to 2:30 pm, and Sunday, May 14, 3 pm to 4:30 pm
427 West 154th Street, Apartment 6. This 850-square-foot two-bedroom, one-bath is in a prewar condo conversion in the Sugar Hill section of Hamilton Heights. Asking price: $610,000. Open house: Sunday, May 14, 11 am to 12 noon.
725 Riverside Drive, Apartment 5A. Spanning 1800 square feet, this three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath is in a pet-friendly condo and has a separate dining room and views of the Hudson River. Asking price: $1.6 million. Open house: Sunday, May 14, 12 noon to 2 pm.
43 Hamilton Terrace. This five-story limestone townhouse is on historic Hamilton Terrace, just steps from Alexander Hamilton's homestead. There are six bedrooms, some of which have fireplaces, and outdoor space. Asking price: $3.85 million. Open house: Sunday, May 14, 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
